Is it ever in black and white **Monochrome**

**Walk over who, do i look like a zebra crossing;)**

I thought I'd share my thoughts on the Monochrome trend which is falling of rails like domino's in the high street this spring/summer. I found some awesome items and you can't really go wrong with black and white, it's flattering, elegant plus the perfect go to when I'm low on time. Personally I would brighten up the look by adding pastels to the mix. The great thing about them is you can choose any shade as a modern contrast against the block print to create a less structured and more playful take on a classic look. I don't know about you but i can't wait for summer.

Breakthroughs and beauty; the 64th Oscars

I haven't updated as much as I'd like to with Uni and i know this post is late coming as the Oscars was a few weeks ago but it's a piece i wrote for this months edition First. Magazine so i thought I'd still share it.This years ceremony was a bit different in many ways as it seems were closer than ever to coming to the understanding that we are all human regardless of skin colour, eye colour, wellness and gender. so lets get to it :)

The Oscars had everybody's eyes glued to the screen this year as 43 million of us tuned in to see which motion pictures picked up a little golden statue and arguably as importantly what the stars of Hollywood were wearing.

#1 Best picture: Steve McQueen's 12 years a slave

 Steve McQueen with his Oscar

The 86th Oscars has seen it's first black winning director which is a ground breaking achievement. It also scooped up best adapted screenplay for being based on the true memoir of Solomon Northup, a freeman sold into slavery during the 19th century Civil war.
McQueen stands victorious with his award which he no doubt should be.The Guardian describes him as fearless for tackling such a cutting subject "has pushed back the boundaries of film because of the fearlessness that comes with a background in art"

McQueen spoke out to his audience "Everyone deserves not just to survive but to live. I dedicate this award to all the people who have endured slavery.” which highlights how far we have come as a human race. McQueen's breakthrough and newly gained respect is an achievement worth more i think, than a piece of gold.

#2 Nupita Nyong'o
Despite the fact of being virtually unknown a year ago it was a winning night for Nupita Nyong'o in more ways than one as she won gazes, hearts and best supporting actress for her performance in Steve McQueen's cutting drama "12 years a slave." She graced the carpet wearing a Nairobi blue Prada gown inspired by the country and gave a memorable speech.

"It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is due to so much pain in someone else's"

Her awareness not only to the serious message of the film but to her self as a positive role model for young black females is something that she holds her self responsible for. At the Essence magazine’s annual Black Women in Hollywood award ceremony she spoke on a touchy subject, race. “I want to take this opportunity to talk about beauty, black beauty, dark beauty.

Niputa's beauty is what we need to see more off. The beauty of a real women, discussing real issues and being proud of the body she was blessed with. "No matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."

#3 Jared Leto

Best Actor in a Supporting Role was given to Jared Leto for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, standing out from the crowd in white tuxedo and red carpet coordinated bow-tie. He gave another moving and genuinely touching acceptance speech, which blew away viewers for being as incredible as his hair. For the whole speech click here.

"To all the dreamers out there around the world watching this tonight in places like the Ukraine and Venezuela, I want to say we are here, as you struggle to make your dreams happen, to live the impossible, we're thinking of you tonight."

Other winners of the night were as follows

#4 Best actor in a leading role: Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club)

Both Dallas boys rocked their white tuxedo's. It was all smiles for Matt and his stunning wife who wore a Gabriela Caden powder pink gown, complete with an asymmetric sleeve. Flawless.

#5 Best Actress in a leading role: Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine)

Effortlessly stylish in her Armani gown

 More Star Style coming up..

Glamorous couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Edgy Emma Watson bang on trend in sheer metallic Vera Wang.

America's sweetheart managing to stay on her feet for a photo. American Hustle star Jennifer Lawrence looks stunning in her statement peplum couture gown.

Chiwetal Ejiofor and Sari Mercer dressed to impress.

Mother monster Lady Gaga toned down look (for her). She wore an art deco inspired Versace gown.

Wolf of wall streets blonde Bomb shell shows her darker side with raven hair and a matching Saint Laurent gown.

The beautiful Penelope cruise. Modern and effortless in her toga inspired gown.

Not such a risque choice as an elegant decision for Sandra bullock as she opted for a royal blue sweetheart neckline Alexander McQueen gown.

One of my absolute favv couples in Hollywood, Will and Jada Pickett Smith rocked up looking supa fly and both wore Versace.

Someone give this guy an award for his face if not an Oscar for his underrated performance in Wolf of wall street. The devilish wolf himself, Leonardo DiCaprio.

It's baby season this spring as certain stars showed up to the awards carrying a little more than most. From Olivia Wilde to Olivia pope, the battle of the bumps was blazing as these women showed us how glamorous pregnancy can be.

Cute couple alert! Hubby and wife Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde. She wore Valentino to accentuate and flatter her best curve, yet as black is ever slimming she can afford to be comfortable and stylish.

The couple look elated to be expecting. Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky who wore a questionably tight fitting Ellie Saab number which i can't imagine being comfortable. Still looks radiant.

Beautiful Kerry Washington was already feeling motherly as she arrived on the carpet to pose with her bump. Her petite figure was beautifully wrapped in a silk Jason Wu number, what an empress.
